Internet Ad Leads Deputies To Suspected Car Thief

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — An internet ad for the sale of wheels and tires led deputies to a suspected car thief, authorities announced Sunday.

The accused, identified as 35-year-old Alida Luz Larranaga of Riverside, was arrested about 5 pm. Saturday after agreeing to meet undercover deputies disguised as prospective buyers.

A statement by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department says the owner of the 1991 Honda Accord had contacted authorities earlier in the week after spotting what appeared to be parts of the vehicle in an online sales ad. The vehicle was stolen in Jurupa Valley on Oct. 13.

The statement said that deputies met Larranaga and recovered the alleged stolen property. The vehicle was subsequently located in Colton and was returned to the owner, deputies said.

Larranaga was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property, among other charges.
