6-Month-Old Baby With Suspicious Injuries Dies In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) – A 6-month-old boy hospitalized in Long Beach with what police called suspicious injuries has died.

The boy's father, David Gomez, 25, was arrested Thursday after the child was pronounced dead.

Gomez, a resident of East Rancho Dominguez, was being held at the Century Regional Detention Center.  According to jail records, he was released after posting $100,000 bail.

Authorities were called to the 15600 block of Washington Avenue in Compton on Wednesday and paramedics took the child to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.  He was admitted with traumatic body injuries, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Don Walker.

Walker said detectives visited the hospital as part of the investigation and arrested Gomez the next morning.

Anyone with information about the case is being asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323)890-5500, or (800)222-TIPS.
