Dead Snorkeler Identified As Laguna Beach Man

LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A snorkeler whose body was found floating near the Montage Resort and Spa was identified Friday as a 60-year-old Laguna Beach man.

Robert Mirett had gone snorkeling at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Goff Cove Beach in Laguna Beach, Lt. Jason Kravetz said.

Just before 4 p.m., police got reports of a body floating in the water, Kravetz said. Beachgoers pulled him out of the water and tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the beach.

A Laguna Beach lifeguard said the man's body had a cut on the head.

"He still had his snorkeling mask on when he was pulled out of the water," Kravetz said.
