HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A reported home invasion on Wednesday at a Hollywood Hills home owned by actor Ashton Kutcher was deemed to be a hoax, police said.

KNX 1070′s Margaret Carrero reports police were called to a home owned by Ashton Kutcher Wednesday afternoon after receiving reports about possible shots being fired.

Authorities received the call just before noon from a home in the 3000 block of Arrowhead Drive in the Hollywood Hills.

Police first received a teletype message at the Hollywood station from a “person that was hard of hearing”, LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph told KCAL9′s Amanda Burden.

“There had been shots fired in the house and the person…had been hiding in the closet,” said Joseph. “We responded accordingly, we sent resources out, helicopter, the whole works to do hostage rescue.”

When authorities arrived, they searched all three floors of the home, as well as a subterranean area. Three possible burglary suspects were detained, but have not been arrested.

“It was pretty much just a waste of resources,” Joseph said, adding investigators would trace the teletype to determine the source of the initial report..

The “Two And A Half Men” star took the apparent prank in stride, posting the message “Safe an sound at two and a half men. Don’t miss tomorrow night 8:30″ on his Twitter page at about 2:25 p.m, along with a photo from the set of the CBS sitcom.

The most recent case of celebrity “swatting” – where a 911 caller falsely reports a serious crime – involved entertainer Miley Cyrus in August when police and firefighters responded to a reported kidnapping and shooting at her Studio City home. She was out of town.

Officials are not sure if the two pranks are related. There has not been an arrest made in the Cyrus case and police have not said if that 911 call has been traced.

CBS2 and KCAL9 ‘s Suraya Fadel reported from outside the actor’s home Wednesday evening. She said he was still not willing to discuss the incident on camera.

“A person who said they were hard of hearing, sent a teletype saying there had been shots fired in the house. Even that a person may have been hiding in a closet,” said one officer.
