LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found on fire in a South LA street.
The woman, described by the coroner as a black female, was found around 9:40 p.m. when firefighters extinguished the flames in the 300 block of East 94th Street near Broadway.
“A concerned citizen saw a person on fire . . . The fire department initially responded and then we got the call to respond,” Los Angeles Police Department Captain Gerald Woodyard said.
The woman was declared dead at the scene, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Don’t know if she actually lit herself on fire or was lit on fire,” Woodyard said.
The woman’s death is being investigated by LAPD homicide detectives and investigators form the LAFD’s Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section.
The woman has not been identified.
