Friends, Family Seek Public's Help To Find South LA Businessman's Killer

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Friends and family of a local businessman who was killed this weekend gathered Monday to ask for the public's help in finding the person who gunned their loved one down.

Donald Wiley, 50, a father of eight, was fatally shot around 3 p.m. Saturday as he sat in his car just outside his credit counseling business in South Los Angeles.

He was heading home after closing his business for the day.

"He was shot numerous times and died here at the scene. At this time we have no suspect description. The case is ongoing," said Tom McMullen from the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to investigators, several witnesses heard gunshots on 76th Street, just east of Crenshaw Boulevard.

Wiley's family wants answers to their horrific loss.

"We're just hurt. We're at a loss for words right now. The family is totally devastated," said Wiley's sister, Rhonda.

The victim's sister, Darlene Wyatt, said, "Ten years in this community and everyone loved Donald Wiley. It's a hurting situation to know that someone is out there that has a dirty mind and a dirty heart to even think to do such a thing."

Wiley leaves behind his two brothers, two sisters and eight children.

"I felt like he was the core to the family. He pretty much held the family together from both angles. He will be deeply missed…he was very helpful," said his brother, Deneyvous Hewitt.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown.
