Autopsy Set After Body Of Missing Lake Forest Woman Is Found Under Bridge

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA (CBSLA.com) — The body of a missing Orange County woman who had been the subject of a week-long search has been found, authorities said.

Michelle Ann McKay, 56, of Lake Forest, was found dead Saturday under the Santa Margarita Parkway bridge, just south of Alicia Parkway, according to Sheriff's Sgt. Mark Alsobrooks.

"They made a positive identification off of fingerprints," Alsobrooks said.

McKay had been missing since Labor Day, when she apparently drove off in her Ford Escape and failed to tell any friends or family where she was headed.

Family members said McKay, an insurance adjuster, was struggling with health and financial issues.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death, Alsobrooks said.

"The cause of death and the time of her death are still under investigation by the coroner's department," said Alsobrooks. "Her vehicle was found about a quarter-mile away."

McKay's death marks the sixth death since 2005 at the 63-foot-high bridge that connects Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo.
