Popular Businessman, Father Of 8 Gunned Down In South LA

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Friends and family of a local businessman gathered this evening to express their shock and sadness over the cold blooded murder of a popular local businessman.

Donald Wiley, 50, a father of eight, was shot and killed around 3 p.m. Saturday as he sat in his car just outside his credit counseling business in South Los Angeles.

Carter Evans, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, talked to Wiley's friends and family -- many who were among the 100 people standing vigil at the crime scene.

Evans said many in the crowd stood for more than five hours trying to make sense of the murder.

Locals described Wiley as a great guy and "pillar of the community," according to Evans.

Darlene Wyatt, the victims sister said, "He was such a good guy, I don't know who would hate him. Who would dislike someone that was out to help everybody?"

Another sister, Toni Wiley, said,  "He was really loved, that's one thing about him, because he would give his last if he had to."

Investigators told Evans they don't have many leads.

Witnesses heard several shots. Wiley had just closed up shop. He walked one of his employees to her car.

She told Evans, "I seen him in the rear view mirror getting something out of the back seat. And before I hit the corner, that's when everything happened."

Tom McMullen, of the LAPD said, "He was shot numerous times and died here at the scene. At this time we have no suspect description. The case is on going.

Davione Wiley, the victim's son, was almost speechless in his grief.  "I ain't got nothin to say to the killer. Nothin to say, the damage is done can't fix what happened."
