Caught On Tape: Man Rescued From Deep Well Near Palmdale

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — A man is thankful to firefighters who rescued him from an eight-foot-deep well near Palmdale.

Video of the rescue on Saturday evening shows crews utilizing a jackhammer to break apart the concrete around the narrow well before pulling the 45-year-old man out.

The rescue occurred almost 24 hours after the man became trapped.

Fire officials say the man fell into the well -- located in a farming area -- after he tried to retrieve something that he had dropped.

"He was discovered by some horseback riders who heard someone yelling. They called us and we responded," one firefighter said.

After being pulled from the well, the man appeared to be exhausted and dehydrated. He was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated.

Firefighters say he suffered no serious injuries.
