LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Search crews resumed scouring the waters off the Orange County coastline on Thursday for a Dana Point-based sailor whose empty boat washed ashore early Wednesday morning.
The Coast Guard and Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol units were searching along the coast for Andrew Szaz, who never made it back to harbor in his 28-foot sailboat, Babe. Szaz was reported missing about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Just before 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, Laguna Beach authorities received a call about a vessel in the surf line off of North Main Beach, Laguna Beach police Lt. Jason Kravetz said.
The boat was about 25 yards off shore, so lifeguards maneuvered it into deeper water and it was towed back to Dana Point Harbor, Kravetz said.
Detectives are investigating the disappearance as a homicide.
