Newport Beach Claims Obama Campaign Hasn’t Paid Its Bill

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — The city of Newport Beach said Monday that a collection agency is sending “past due” notices to President Barack Obama’s campaign.

The city wants to be reimbursed by Obama for America for $35,000 in police costs used during a breakfast fundraiser in February.

City officials notified the Democratic National Committee, but said they were told to deal with Secret Service.

However, the Secret Service said it doesn’t reimburse law enforcement agencies.

Officials said if cities have concerns about money, they should speak up ahead of time, so the service would use other agencies instead.

Republican Mitt Romney already paid back what he was billed for a Newport Beach fundraiser in May. His bill was significantly less than the president’s.
