Mariah Carey To Join Judging Panel On 'American Idol'

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Mariah Carey has been named the newest judge on FOX's "American Idol", it was announced Monday.

The announcement was made by FOX entertainment chief Kevin Reilly at a Television Critics Association meeting.

Earlier this month, judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith announced they are leaving the hit music competition show after two years on the panel.

Carey, 42, has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, and has also won five Grammy Awards.

Carey joins Randy Jackson in the show's 12th season. A third judge has not been announced.
