LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center was named the fifth-best hospital in the nation and the best in California and Los Angeles by U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine, which released its annual medical center rankings Tuesday, gave the Westwood hospital high national rankings in 14 categories – cancer, gynecology, psychiatry, geriatrics, nephrology, ophthalmology and urology.

The hospital was the only one in California to crack the magazine’s list of top medical centers in the nation, and it was rated the best in the western United States for the 23rd straight year.

“Our purpose is to heal humankind, one patient at a time,” said Dr. David Feinberg, president and CEO of the UCLA Health System and UCLA associate vice chancellor for health sciences. “Our team of dedicated doctors, nurses and staff has a steadfast commitment to ensure that every patient we see is treated like a member of our own family.”

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center ranked second statewide, with Keck Hospital of USC placing sixth and Huntington Memorial placing eighth.

The top hospitals overall in the United States were, in order, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore; the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.; the Cleveland Clinic; and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
