MORENO VALLEY (CBS) —  A year-old child is in grave condition after being pulled unconscious from a backyard pool in Moreno Valley Thursday afternoon.

The toddler was discovered by family members about 4:12 p.m. in a pool in the 23000 block of Gamma Street, near Doncaster Drive, according to Riverside County sheriff’s officials.

Deputies were the first to respond to frantic 911 calls seeking help and immediately began performing CPR on the child, who had been underwater for an undetermined amount of time and was not breathing, according to reports from the scene.

Paramedics with American Medical Response arrived moments later, taking over resuscitation efforts and rushing the victim to Riverside County Regional Medical Center.

It was unclear whether the child had regained consciousness.
