Dry Hills Around Rose Bowl A Concern For Fourth Of July Fireworks

PASADENA (CBS) — Fireworks will be booming over the Rose Bowl Wednesday night for the annual Americafest show, but authorities are concerned about what might be happening outside the stadium.

Firefighters are routinely called out to spot fires around the Rose Bowl every year on Independence Day because of illegal fireworks. The hills are so dry this year, there is big concern about someone sparking a wildfire.

"Everything's so brittle, and nothing is wet – it can just ignite. And they're not going to be careful about the fireworks," a jogger told KNX 1070's Jon Baird.

People should simply come down to the Rose Bowl for the big show and be satisfied with that, the jogger said.
