Man Killed In Boyle Heights Car-To-Car Shooting

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police have identified a person if interest in a shooting that killed a man early Friday morning in a car-to-car shooting in front of his Boyle Heights apartment.

Joe Lobos, 25, was returning from the overnight shift at a Burbank Shell gas station when he was fatally shot in the 1300 block of Dacotah Street, near Olympic Boulevard, officials said.

When officers responded to the shots fired call around 1 a.m., they found Lobos behind the wheel of a black Chevy Cavalier, shot multiple times in the torso.

Paramedics declared Lobos dead on the scene, authorities said.

Family members tell CBS2's Louisa Hodge that Lobos lived in an apartment on the corner of Dacotah and Olympic with his girlfriend and her 2-year-old daughter.

"She was here in bed and she heard the shots. It took her a little while to get the courage to come outside, but when she did, she was able to identify him in his mother's car," friend Lisa Gonzales said.

The suspects were seen fleeing in a black Ford Explorer, officials said. No motive was released.

Police say there is no evidence the shooting was gang related.

Officials say they do not plan on making any arrests Friday.
