LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A former Vernon city official was found dead Thursday night at a state park in the Bay area.
Eric T. Fresch, whose body was found at Angel Island State Park in the San Francisco Bay not far from his home in Tiburon, served as Vernon’s city attorney and city administrator over the years he worked with the city, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Park rangers began searching for Fresch after they were notified that he had been cycling on the island but never came home, the Times reported.
Fresch was considered a powerful decision maker in Vernon, which was nearly disincorporated by the Legislature after a series of corruption scandals.
Fresch’s death came the same day a state audit was released, raising questions about the city’s contracting and investment decisions while he served as its top administrator.
