CHINO (CBS) — Police are widening their search for a dangerous burglar who has hit eight Inland Empire homes over the last five weeks.
All the incidents have taken place between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m., police said. The most recent crime took place Monday around 11 p.m. at a home in Chino.
“The suspect ran away when the resident heard noise coming from the bedroom and went to investigate. Upon entering the room, the victim noticed someone had attempted to remove the screen; her purse was visible through the window,” Chino police said.
Of the eight incidents, the suspect got into five homes and stolen a purse or cash which were visible through windows, officials said.
In at least two incidents, the suspect attacked the women who caught him in the act.
The suspect is described as a black or Hispanic man, between the ages of 18 and 30, approximately 5′ 8″ to 5′ 10,” and weighing approximately 160 to 180 pounds, police said.
Due to the suspect’s propensity for violence, officials warn residents against confronting him.
Anyone with information should call the Chino Police Department at (909) 628-1234.
