LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man suspected of attacking a 50-year-old woman who was found unconscious at a bus stop has been charged with attempted murder, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

An officer discovered the victim on a bus bench at Manchester and Normandie avenues just before 12:55 a.m. Monday, according to LAPD Officer Roger Aguirre.

Police say Allen Phillip Crews, 22, was spotted leaving the scene. A perimeter was quickly set up in the area and a police dog located him about 2 a.m., he said.

Crews, a transient, is being charged with one felony count each of attempted murder, assault with attempt to commit a felony, sexual penetration by a foreign object and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.

His arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Prosecutors are asking that his bail be set at $1.56 million.

If convicted, Crews faces more than 25 years to life in prison.
