Former Band Teacher Given Jail Time, Ordered To Attend Sex-Offender Program

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A former band teacher at George Washington Preparatory High School in South Los Angeles was sentenced Thursday to 30 days in jail and ordered to undergo a sex-offender program.

Corey Hogan, 32, plead no contest last month to a felony charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a teenage girl who attended another school.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Windham also ordered Hogan to perform 60 days of Caltrans service, serve five years on formal probation and not to work with any minors or be in the presence of any minors without another adult being present, according to Deputy District Attorney Andrea Thompson.

The Hawthorne man was arrested in February after the girl and her mother went to the Hawthorne Police Department to report that the girl had sex with him at his home, police said at the time.

The girl -- who went to a different school -- met Hogan last year while her school's dance team was using the facilities at George Washington Preparatory High School, according to authorities.

Hogan was on a temporary contract and probationary status and was fired immediately, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
