On The Lam, Former LA Resident Uncovered In Colorado
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — She’s wanted for burglary, grand theft and identity theft.
Lacy Johnson, a former LA resident, is even accused of faking a breast cancer diagnosis to make money.
Johnson, also known as Lacy Hall, was arrested last year and made bail. The LA County District Attorney’s office tells CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Suraya Fadel that when it came time to show up in court, Johnson skipped and has been on the run ever since.
An arrest warrant was issued for Johnson — she has been since tracked to Colorado Springs.
Our sister station there caught up with Johnson recently — with the help of a bond agent investigation a new fraud case.
Police in LA believe at least 50 victims have been cheated out of money by the 32-year-old Johnson.
Fadel found a website, created by an alleged victim, warning others about Johnson’s various schemes, scams and aliases. Click here for a link to the website.
On the site, a litany of alleged crimes and scams including telling people her father committed suicide (he’s alive) or that her brother died of an overdose and that he also committed suicide (also alive) and that she’s rich but her money is tied up and that she has a show on the Food Network.
Police also told Fadel that Johnson is behind the website “Care Package Bears” — supposedly donating money to soldier’s overseas — but Fadel reports the group is neither recognized or registered as a non-profit.
