LAKE VIEW TERRACE (CBS) — A horse got stuck in mud Saturday in Lake View Terrace, prompting a carefully coordinated rescue, a city fire official said.
The incident was reported at 5 p.m. at 11798 W. Foothill Blvd., near Hansen Dam Aquatic Center, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The horse was in water, with about half of its body covered, with three legs stuck in sand or mud, Scott said.
A helicopter hoist operation helped life the equine to safety. About 35 firefighters worked from ground and air to rescue the animal, Scott said.
About 10 firefighters worked to keep the horse’s head above water during the rescue operation, and a specialized team was expected to tranquilize the horse while firefighters brought it to safety.
The horse was reunited with its owner.
