Landlord Preparing Property For Rental Finds Body In Backyard Hole

SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — A man's body was found Tuesday half-buried in a hole in a San Bernardino backyard by a landlord who was preparing to rent the property.

Angel Cortez, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene at the home in the 200 block of East 11th Street.

The owner of the property had come out to prepare it for renting, but smelled a suspicious odor and called police, according to the San Bernardino Sun.

Cortez's body was found half buried in a 5-foot hole, under debris.

Police have no motive in the death. Homicide detectives were at the scene investigating, but the death has not been ruled a homicide, the Sun reported.
