Demand-Based Parking Program Takes Effect In Downtown
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — New fees for parking in downtown Los Angeles take effect Monday under a new program where prices will rise and fall with demand.
The demand-based plan is part of a year-long pilot program.
Parking fees will increase by as much as 50 percent to $6 per hour during the busiest periods. During slower times, parking could cost as little as 50 cents, down from the current $1 hourly minimum.
The program is for both curbside and city-owned lots.
Drivers will also be able to use cell phones and the internet to find open spaces and put additional money in meters.
