Female Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Riverside Police Car

RIVERSIDE (CBS) —  A female pedestrian died Sunday night after sustaining major injuries when a Riverside police officer struck her as she was trying to cross the street, a police spokesman said.

At about 7:50 a.m., the officer was driving his marked car north on Madison Street, and as he approached the intersection at Emerald Street, Isabel Pablo Tomas woman stepped into the street walking west from the east roadway edge of Madison outside of the crosswalk and was hit by the officer, according to Riverside police Lt. Eric Charrette.

Riverside Fire Department and American Medical Response paramedics treated Tomas. The mother of six was then transported to Riverside Community Hospital, where she later died.

Members of the police department's Major Accident Investigation Team were investigating the incident.
