Mayweather-Cotto Generates $94M With 1.5 Pay-Per-View Buys
LOS ANGELES(CBS) – Mayweather Jr’s middleweight bout against Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto generated 1.5 million pay-per-views buys and $94-million in domestic revenue to make it the second highest grossing pay-per-view for a non-heavy weight fight, said HBO Friday.
The only other fight that had bigger numbers was in 2007 when Mayweather fought LA’s Oscar De La Hoya which generated 2.46 million pay-per-view buys with a revenue of $137 million.
De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions also helped out the card by having a sub-feature with Mexican Sensation “Canelo” Alvarez and Sugar Shane Mosley.
Mayweather, nicknamed ‘Money,’ has now racked up 9.6 million buys and $543 million in total TV revenue in his career, according to HBO.
Mayweather also had the highest guarantee contract of $32-million.
The MGM Grand sold 14,612 tickets that generated $12 million according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Now we know why Nevada decided push back Mayweather’s jail-time. Score for the state of Nevada!
