'Budget Blinds' CEO Visits KCAL9 To Discuss His Appearance On 'Undercover Boss'

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Budget Blinds CEO & Co-Founder Chad Hallock visited KCAL9 Friday to talk about his appearance on tonight's episode of Undercover Boss.

Hallock, who lives in Orange County, gets tangled up, hit on, and insulted during the hour-long show.

Budget Blinds is the largest window coverings franchise in North America with more than 800 franchise locations.

Hallock performs the following jobs on the show:

Job #1:
Sales Consultation
Location – Morris, Ill.
Works with a Franchise Owner
Chad works with a franchise owner and is relieved that he's not recognized – as they met when he became a franchisee. Chad is concerned with the very long amount of time the owner takes with customers to pick out drapes and blinds. Chad thinks he's overwhelming them with too many choices, when it's generally best to use one's expertise to try to help them to narrow it down to a few choices. Chad is later taken aback when the franchise owner says that corporate isn't spending the advertising dollars well/strategically – as he thinks that they should market more regionally. Chad later shares on camera that he's responsible for advertising…

Job #2
Installation
Location – Chicago, Ill
Works with a Franchise Owner
Chad works with another franchise owner and helps mount blinds in a home. He struggles with the drill, drops things on the floor and has to be told not to lean any of their things on the customer's wall. Though Chad dismissed the previous owner's comments about regional advertising, he starts to reconsider when this owner also shares her concerns over how local advertising money is being spent -- and how the franchise owners do not have a say in it. She believes it make good business sense to tailor the ads to the different markets.

Job #3
Paint Assembly Line
Location – Middleton, WI
Works with a Paint Line Technician
Chad works as a paint line technician, for which he learns how they have to hang the blinds on the rails, take them to the paint line to get sprayed and then pack them up. It's important to her to provide a high quality of work. She's somewhat smitten with Chad, despite the fact that he isn't that great at the job. She shares her concerns with the company, saying that morale is not great anymore – as the company doesn't seem connected to its employees.

Job #4
Installation
Location – Topeka, KS
Works with an Installer
This particular franchise does really well and Chad would like to find out what they do so well to hopefully help out other franchises. The installer is very courteous and detail oriented. He goes above and beyond the call of duty, even dusting window sills in hard to reach areas while installing the blinds. He also takes every opportunity to market the company – putting fliers in the customer's neighbors' mailboxes.
