Motorist Robbed At Gunpoint After Being Tricked Into Pulling Over

COACHELLA (CBS)  — A man told deputies he was robbed at gunpoint after being tricked into pulling his car over on Route 60, sheriff's department spokesman said Sunday.

The incident occurred about 8 a.m. Saturday on state Route 60, east of Gilman Springs Road in the Badlands, according to sheriff's Sgt. Vic Trevino.

Deputies said the man told them he was driving west through the Badlands when another driver indicated to him that his car was smoking and motioned for him to pull over, Trevino said.

The suspect then approached the victim with a handgun, robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money and then fled heading west on state Route 60, the sergeant said.

The sheriff's department urged anyone with information to call (951) 922-7100 or e-mail CabazonStation@RiversideSheriff.org.
