18-Month-Old Girl Killed In El Monte When Car Jumps A Curb

EL MONTE (CBS) —  An 18-month-old baby girl was killed Saturday when a vehicle jumped a curb and struck a bus bench in El Monte, police said.

The crash was reported at 2:07 p.m. at Mountain View Road and Valley Boulevard, according to the El Monte Police Department.

Officers arriving on the scene found three pedestrians had been struck — an 18-month-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a 36-year-old woman.

The 36-year-old woman is listed in critical condition, the 12-year-old boy is listed as stable. All three victims were transported to County/USC Medical Center where the infant was declared dead.

Witnesses and the two victims told police the driver was trying to park in the nearby Walgreens parking lot when the vehicle accelerated, jumped the curb and struck the bus bench where the victims sat. The vehicle came to rest against a Southern California Edison pole’s guide wire.

No charges were filed.
