Apartment's Broken Sprinkler Lead Police To Marijuana Grow House

HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — Authorities say firefighters responding to a flooded Thai Town apartment because of a broken sprinkler discovered a marijuana grow house.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to a sprinkler alarm at 5432 Harold Way about 12:20 a.m., a Los Angeles police officer said.

The police officers called to the apartment by firefighters found dozens of growing plants and several pounds of marijuana in the flooded apartment. The apartment's resident was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession with intent to distribute and illegal cultivation.

The suspect's name was not immediately released.

It's not immediately clear if the sprinkler malfunction was linked with the marijuana grow. The sprinkler break left a foot of water in the apartment and a hallway, police said.
