LONG BEACH (AP) — A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to a year in jail for engaging in sex acts with a teenage relative.

Prosecutors say a Long Beach Superior Court judge dismissed one felony count against 35-year-old Deputy Orlando Denison on Tuesday, under the terms of a negotiated settlement.

Denison pleaded no contest to the other count of oral copulation with a minor and was remanded into custody.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore says Denison worked at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic. He is currently relieved of duty without pay. The process to fire him is under way.

Denison was also sentenced to five years probation and lifetime sex offender registration.

Prosecutors say the crime occurred in July 2010 and involved a female relative who was 16 at the time.
