Rubio Out For Season With Torn ACL

MINNEAPOLIS (CBS/AP) -- A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that Minnesota Timberwolves rookie sensation Ricky Rubio is out for the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Rubio had an MRI on Saturday after he was injured during a double team trying to guard Kobe Bryant in the closing seconds of a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night. The person requested anonymity because an official announcement has not been made.

The news was first reported by the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

It's a devastating blow for the Timberwolves. They are challenging for a playoff spot in the Western Conference after being a doormat for the last five years. Rubio has been one of the keys to the resurgence.
