COMPTON (CBS) — The teacher at the center of a sexual misconduct investigation at a middle school in Compton has been put on administrative leave.

Earlier, it was reported the teacher was fired but that report proved to be erroneous.

The unnamed man, accused of inappropriate sexual behavior with at least one female student, has not been arrested, but has been relieved of teaching duties, said Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

The ongoing investigation at Davis Middle School began Thursday evening. Detectives were conducting interviews at the school.

Saldana said investigators believe there may be additional victims.

Officials said the Compton School District and school staff have offered their full support during the investigation.
