Training Grenade Causes Stir At Toyota Dealership In La Crescenta

LA CRESCENTA (CBS) — What turned out to be a "training grenade" with no explosives was blown up Wednesday night by a sheriff's bomb squad at a Toyota dealership in La Crescenta.

The "grenade" was found in a red Toyota Tercel that had been on the used car lot at 3300 block of Foothill Boulevard, between New York and Maryland avenues.

The car had been on the lot for three years and was being rehabilitated for sale at Bob Smith Toyota.

The dealership was evacuated, along with nearby apartments. The "grenade" was destroyed about 7:30 p.m.

A Glendale Police Department watch commander said the "grenade" was a "training grenade," meaning it never had explosives in it.
