Newport Beach Man Ordered To Move Antique Boat Out Of His Yard

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — A judge has ordered an Orange County man to set sail or face fines if he doesn’t move the 72-foot antique boat in his yard that he’s been restoring for years.

Dennis Holland has been working on the antique Ketch in his yard in Newport Beach since 2006. Holland had a permit for his restoration project, but it expired last year when he refused to give a completion date.

Neighbors and city officials thought the boat was an eyesore and sued to have it moved.

A judge is now ordering Holland to move the old ship, but Holland told the Los Angeles Times the vessel can’t be moved.

If Holland doesn’t move the boat from his home by April 30, he faces fines of $1,000 a day or jail time.

If the man tells the Judge he cant move the boat, why won’t the Judge understand the man’s side of the story. Maybe the Judge might let the man have a little additional time to get the ship moved. Then, once it is moved, everyone will be in a better state of mind.

I work on projects from time to time, and to be honest, sometimes it is really hard to pin down a completion date If the man with the boat is being straight with the Judge, thats fine. If the man is being a horses butt on purpose, then thats another thing. Good luck to all in this one.

I understand sometimes fines must be levied, but $1000.00 a day is too far out! Give the ole man a break. This is his hobby for goodness sake!

6 years is more than enough time to restore a boat. Judging from the video it would take him at least another 6 years to put it back together. I feel for the guy, but the neighbors have a right to their peace and happiness too

I guess in all fairness it is kind of BIG and ugly {like Moochelle}. By the way, I think “ships” are 200′ or longer in length and, “boats” are less than 200′ feet in length.
