LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A woman was listed in critical condition Sunday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Skid Row.
The victim, identified as a 51-year-old transient, was apparently asleep in her tent when she was struck.
In a news release issued by Los Angeles police, authorities said the collision on the west sidewalk of Towne Avenue occurred about 2:30 a.m. between 4th Street and 5th Street.
The statement says that detectives believe the suspect, a man in his early 30s, was attempting to run over another pedestrian.
The motive may have been drug related, authorities said.
The suspect vehicle is described as a 1998-2009 Pontiac Grand-Prix or Grand-Am, police said.
Anyone with more information is asked to contact Detective Michael Kaden at (213) 972-1837 or Detective Josephine Mapson at (213) 972-1825.
