Murder Suspect Shot, Killed By Police In La Mirada

LA MIRADA (CBS) — Los Angeles police shot and killed a double-murder suspect Thursday who fired a gun at officers trying to arrest him at a house in La Mirada, according to officials.

The 27-year-old man died at the scene of the shooting, which happened about 8:30 a.m. in the 15500 block of Escalona Road, Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andy Smith said.

Authorities have not released his name.

Smith said investigators went to the house Thursday morning to arrest the man.

The suspect ran out of the residence from the rear and fled onto the roof of a nearby building, Smith said. He pulled out a gun and fired one shot at officers. He was shot and killed by police.

According to the sheriff’s department, Escalona Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted just before 11 a.m.

No officers were injured.

Why the hell would they serve a warrant on a MURDER suspect at 8am on a school day?!?!????!!!!! They locked down the school AFTER shots were fired as a “precaution” – Timing of this is beyond stupid!

AGREED! My son was there and according to one of the teachers, the police told the principal they were ging to make the arrest last Friday after school. No further word. The kids were at recess outside a bock away at the time of the shooting. The teachers were bringing them inside due to the helicoptors overhead when the heard the shots fired.
