LA MIRADA (CBS) — Los Angeles police shot and killed a double-murder suspect Thursday who fired a gun at officers trying to arrest him at a house in La Mirada, according to officials.
The 27-year-old man died at the scene of the shooting, which happened about 8:30 a.m. in the 15500 block of Escalona Road, Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andy Smith said.
Authorities have not released his name.
Smith said investigators went to the house Thursday morning to arrest the man.
The suspect ran out of the residence from the rear and fled onto the roof of a nearby building, Smith said. He pulled out a gun and fired one shot at officers. He was shot and killed by police.
According to the sheriff’s department, Escalona Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted just before 11 a.m.
No officers were injured.
