As always, the Oscars produce cries that the wrong movie/talent won. But what are the worst snubs of all time? (Well, at least the last few decades. -Ed.) My list, below. Feel free to add your own, in Comments, at the bottom of the page.
Francis Ford Coppola lost best director for Godfather, to Bob Fosse for Cabaret? (Even though Godfather itself, did win.)
Dances with Wolves beat Goodfellas. Fargo lost to The English Patient. Rocky beat Taxi Driver (and for that matter, Network).
And I don’t want to get too personal, but Ellen Burstyn lost to Julia Roberts, in Requiem for a Dream, and Erin Brockovich, respectively. Watching Brokovich was like watching an updated version of plucky Alice, in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, which starred…. Ellen Burstyn.
Ah well, that’s what makes it a horse race, I guess….
