Grammy Awards

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Is Nicki Minaj possessed?

That’s the question posed by the Catholic League, which is denouncing the rapper’s choice of fashion and performance theme at the Grammy Awards Sunday night.

On the red carpet, Minaj walked the red carpet in a satiny red hooded cloak, embroidered with black beads along the edges, arm in arm with an unidentified, older white man dressed like the pope, complete with headdress and flowing gold cloak.

The red carpet was just a hint of things to come.

Minaj performed her new single “Roman Holiday,” with scenes of a confessional and an exorcism – complete with Minaj floating horizontally – amid dancing choir boys and monks.

“Perhaps the most vulgar part was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer,” Catholic League president Bill Donohue said in a news release.

Donohue also blasted the Recording Academy, saying they would never allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.

That performance was the most unnecessary and ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. Why waste time talking about it?

That utterly disgusting persormance was totally occultic and very blatently satanic. The symbolisms were only too obvious as to their true origin. It is a shame that a talent like Nikki has to sell out to the dark in order to suceed. I wonder if she realizes who she is aligning herself with ???

I think you meant to write “whom” rather than “who.”

        Does that really matter ?

Wouldn’t it be fair to say the Catholic church has far more serious things to worry about than this?

  • Mal

Right. What are the chances this “edgy” “entertainer” would have a character dressed as an imam participating onstage?
Much safer to diss Catholicism, isn’t it, you silly cow?

Why not choose a Brutha to look like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson,MLK,or Malcolm X and her dress like Oprah? or yeah that would be dissin the black folk.

What that display really showed was complete ignorance – even of the occult. It cannot be taken seriously. It should never have been included in the show.

she holds the honor of the worst performance of grammy night. There were so many great performances that night. All of the catholic outfits, imagery, symbolism etc in her performance were horrific. Even other artists have made negative comments about it, usually they keep their comments to themselves. Anyway, hasn’t this all been done before ie: Madonna 20 years ago and Lady Gaga 2 years ago, N Minaj is not very cutting edge.
