Motorcycle Cop En Route To Long Beach Checkpoint For Unlicensed Drivers Hit By One

LONG BEACH (CBS) — A Long Beach police officer was recovering Monday after he collided with a car allegedly driven by an unlicensed driver.

KNX 1070′s Bob Brill reports the motorcycle officer was on his way to a checkpoint to screen for unlicensed drivers when he encountered one firsthand.

The officer was heading westbound towards the intersection of Anaheim Street and Walnut Avenue at around 6:10 p.m. on Sunday when an eastbound Ford Focus turned in front of him and the officer wasn’t able to stop in time, according to Long Beach Police spokeswoman Lisa Massacani.

“[He] was unable to stop in time and his motorcycle collided with the passenger vehicle,” Massacani said.

Two other motorcycle officers with him managed to avoid the collision.

The officer was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening-injuries.

The driver of the Focus, a 47-year-old Long Beach man whose name was not made public, was not injured.

He was cited at the scene for driving without a license and making an unsafe turn. His car was also impounded.

Requiring driver’s licenses for people actually driving is not a Nazi-thing…it’s a safety thing. Stopping pedestrians, or requiring papers from the passengers in a car pulled over would be the equivalent. Don’t exaggerate.

Too bad this unlicensed illegal alien wasn’t in Los Angeles. They police would have put him in a cab and had his car sent to a body shop. Los Angeles doesn’t want to be unfair to illegal unlicensed aliens.

Where in the news article does it mention that the unlicensed driver was an illegal alien? No doubt that there are many illegal aliens that are unlicensed drivers, but there was no reference in this article about any. If you have not read the article carefully and correcrly, you should not make any comments!

There is no such thing as a checkpoint for unlicensed drivers. It is a dui checkpoint. Papers please should not be an option in the course of these checkpoints . they should only be verifying if the driver is impaired , not who he is, where he is from or where he is going. Our freedoms and rights are going out the window and most people are not aware f it. then again, most people in this country can not accurately describe where ohio or idaho are on the map, not to mention know the difference between them.

Not true Hawthorne has been doing an unlicensed & non insured drivers check points for years, of course the bleeding heart Libs say it targets illegal aliens and should be stopped.

Recommendation to the injured officer. send the medical bill to Antonio Reconquista and Charlie Beck if they refuse to pay, open a civil case against both of them.

I have to wonder why the name, age and duty location of the VICTIM Officer in this crash was front and center in the news coverage, and the name of the CRIMINAL who was driving without a valid license (also wonder if it was suspended or if he just didn’t have one) was not released? What is it that the news media is hiding???

This accident wouldn’t have happened if we’d start making the US a place unappealing to illegal aliens, rather than giving them excessive handouts.
