PORTER RANCH (CBS) — Authorities are advising residents to lock all doors and take extra precautions after a string of burglaries in Porter Ranch.

Administrators at Castle Bay Lane Elementary School sent letters warning parents after four burglaries were reported near the school on Monday.

All of the robberies have taken place in the middle of the day, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

One victim, who had to replace a damaged door, says thieves got away with alcohol and jewelry after breaking through a back window.

Police are now urging residents to make their presence known without putting themselves in danger.

Police have not released detailed descriptions of the burglars, who have been spotted in a white SUV with front-end damage.

Police say they are between 20 and 30 years old.

  2. Get some facts cbs! says:

Is this an ad for ADT?

The photo below the headline shows not only the full name of the alarm company, but shows there complete phone number. You would think that cbs
could find a better photo to cover this story.

    I agree with you rankin1,
You would think that someone could come up with a little more info for the residents of the area. As it has become a more PC society, the media tends to favor the criminals when a basic description is needed to catch these punks.

Gone are the days of great news work!

It would be wise to look further into the ADT angle. In my neighborhood, we found out that someone paid a neighbor to fake a home invasion. Intruder got away but next couple of days ADT was pounding the pavement, going door to door and making a point of letting everyone know of the most recent attempted break in. It wasn’t until ADT showed up for the next 3 weeks that I became suspicious. I will rely on my 2 large dogs as well as a loaded 357

When I saw the picture, I thought that the crooks were able to by-pass the ADT alarm system. Now, I am thinking of just getting dogs because they are more vigilant and watches the house 12/7. I don’t think you can bypass a vicious guard dog.

You have this story indicating “…descriptions of the burglars, who have been spotted in a white SUV. Police say they are between 20 and 30 years old.”

Then you have a story of the guy in Sun Valley just 2 days ago, that was shot during a petty robbery of his Grandfather on the street, and the robbers were described as “..descriptions of the robbers; left the crime scene in a white SUV, appeared to be between 20 and 30 years old.”

Sure, there are a lot of White SUVs around LA with 20 to 30 year olds at the wheel – but this obvius?

“Glock 40” with hollow points, topped off with a few regular “flats” is just what the funeral director “ordered”! Shotguns work “wonders” also! This tends to make “housebreakers” very ill! Heard a news story about 2 burglers getting shot by a homeowner, when the attempted to do a home “Invasion” in Texas last night, and the score is 1 down, 1 “Critical, and the home owner nursing a bullet wound from an AR-15 in the face, and yes, the homeowner “still won”! Housebreaking is getting dangerouse!

  7. Richard Face says:

Black, My neighbors house got it from them a while back, and when I told another neighbor they were black, I got the “HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?” It’s because they were seen. Maybe it’s white guys dressed up like black guys? They have been doing this for some time now. Hope they get shot!
