ANAHEIM (AP) — Anaheim police say they may have shot and killed a man who was carrying a BB gun.
Sgt. Bob Dunn tells the Orange County Register police were dealing with several calls Saturday night including a report of a man with a shotgun. Police responded to the call and SWAT team members armed with assault rifles shot a man who was later identified by family members as Bernie “Chino” Villegas.
Dunn told the paper authorities recovered what appeared to be a rifle but was later determined to be a BB rifle.
Villegas is survived by a 14-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son.
His father, Miguel Villegas, says his son made a mistake.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
