Officers Honored For Providing Tip That Led To Arsonist's Arrest

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Two law enforcement officials were honored Thursday for providing the critical tip leading to the arrest of the Hollywood arson suspect.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa honored US Marshal Louis Flores and US State Department Official Jonathan Lamb in a ceremony Thursday.

Each received a plaque expressing the city's gratitude.

Both men were involved with the deportation case of arson suspect Harry Burkhart's mother Dorothy.

The two men where in court and witnessed the 24-year-old man's profanity laced outburst during his mother's hearing.

Lamb and Flores later referenced the tirade when they identified Burkhart in surveillance video.

Investigators believe it was Burkhart's rage about his mother's case that triggered the arson spree.
