Girl Who Spread Joy And Hope To Thousands Loses Battle With Brain Cancer

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Jessie Rees, whose wish was to spread joy and encourage kids battling cancer to “Never Ever Give Up” (NEGU), lost her own fight with the disease Thursday. She was 12 years old.

On March 3, 2011, Jessie was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, but she did not let her illness get her down.

Instead she brought happiness and hope to other children with her JoyJars. She filled the jars with little gifts to brighten up their stay in the hospital.

She also sold her jars online along with a NEGU bracelet and JoyJars t-shirts.

Jessie’s vision quickly spread with tens of thousands of followers on Facebook and inspired the creation of The NEGU Foundation.

Jessie’s memory and spirit will continue to live on through the thousands of people she touched and the foundation that she inspired.

She was an angel who visited for a short time, and has gone home now! My sincere condolences to her friends and family. I am sure she spread more joy and love in her time on this earth than most know in a life time.

Have you people checked out her FaceBook page in the last few minutes?? Her goal was 50,000 likes… one for each child fighting cancer. Through the power of social networking, she gained over 9000 likes just today and is now well on her way to 51,000 at a rate of about a like each second. This little girl was truly an inspiration!! The old song goes… it only takes a spark to get a fire going…. her life was truly that kind of spark.

She may have lost the battle for life, but she won her a greater battle in the war against this sickening disease. A very brave young lady. ‘She rests in a better place, well earned, and safe until re-united with loved ones – untill then ……’

Jessie was so amazing, beautiful, strong and brave. I seen her with more fight energy than most adults. My company had the chance to make her very happy by creating her JoyJars animated commercial. I remember how she thought it was so cool to be made into a cartoon and to have an actual animated commercial about her JoyJars. She will be greatly missed until the next time we see her again one sweet day. Please support JoyJars at http://www.JoyJars.org. You can also see her commercial that we created for her on the front page. You can also see it on our youtube channel. http://youtu.be/3pVIpBkVnkY
