Riverside County Deputy Charged In Deadly Bar Shooting

MURRIETA (CBS/AP) — A Riverside County sheriff's deputy has been charged in a deadly bar shooting in Murrieta.

The Associated Press reports that prosecutors filed a murder charge Friday against Deputy Dayle William Long.

Investigators say the 10-year veteran was off-duty when he allegedly shot a 36-year-old man in Spelly's Pub & Grill on Murrieta Hot Springs Road on Dec. 21.

The victim was identified by authorities as Samuel Vanettas of Winchester.

Long has remained jailed in lieu of $1 million bail. Arraignment was set for Friday afternoon at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.

If convicted, Long could face a sentence of 50 years to life in prison.
