Car Theft Suspect Killed During Shootout With LAPD
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A stolen car suspect has been shot to death during a Los Angeles police gunbattle south of downtown.
Investigators say police officers spotted a car stolen in Long Beach and pulled over the driver Wednesday evening in the Pico-Union District.
Officer Norma Eisenman tells City News Service that the driver jumped out of the car and began firing at officers. A squad car was peppered with bullets but the officers weren't hurt.
The officers then shot the man and he died at a hospital a short time later. His name hasn't been released.
There are no other details. Sgt. Cathy Reyes says detectives were still at the shooting scene before dawn Thursday.
