BURBANK (AP) — Federal authorities say a 68-year-old man was arrested at Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport after a loaded semiautomatic handgun was found in his carry-on bag.
The Transportation Security Administration says the unregistered .40-caliber Glock G23 loaded with 10 rounds was detected Thursday morning by TSA personnel. The man was booked on an Alaska Airlines flight to Seattle.
TSA says the man was arrested on a state charge of carrying a loaded firearm in a checkpoint. The man, whose name was not released, could also be subject to civil penalties up to $11,000.
The agency notes that handguns may be transported by passengers only in checked baggage, if they are unloaded, in the proper carrying case and declared to the airline.
