OC Housewife Under Arrest For Suspicion Of DUI After Critically Injuring Newport Beach Girl

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — An O.C. mother was under arrest Tuesday for suspicion of DUI after her vehicle struck a seventeen-year-old girl walking home from school. The girl was hospitalized in extremely critical condition.

The accident happened just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Irvine Avenue and Margaret Drive.

Andrew Craft, a sophomore as Newport Harbor High School watched as the victim stepped into the crosswalk, and was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Marnie Lippincott.

"We saw her fly up, and her hair go back," said Craft. "Then hen she flew about ten to fifteen feet, and rolled."

Police say 38-year-old Lippincott was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Lippincott's husband says she is a stay-at-home mom, and was on her way to pick up their 12-year-old daughter from school. The man insists his wife had not been drinking.

Lippincott stopped after the accident and tried to help the young victim.

Craft reports the panicked driver said, "Oh my God, that could have been my daughter."

One Newport Harbor High mom says this was the day she had been dreading.

"The children risk their lives every day just to try to cross that intersection."

Lippincott is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
