Coroner Identifies Woman In Fatal Queen Mary Fall

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The young woman who died after falling from the Queen Mary Tuesday night has been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner.

Authorities say Kelly Ryann Dorrell, 26, of Long Beach plummeted 75 feet into the water from a third-story railing around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Long Beach police said that Dorrell has been drinking when she allegedly got into an argument with her unidentified boyfriend, climbed onto a railing and fell.

Dorrell’s boyfriend dove 15 feet into the water to save her. He was hospitalized with hypothermia and minor injuries.

A Long Beach police officer and a Queen Mary staff member also jumped in the water to try and save Dorrell. They were able to pull her out of a narrow channel between the side of the ship and the pier.

Dorrell was taken to a Long Beach hospital, where she later died.

An autopsy will likely be done Thursday to determine the exact cause of death.

Long Beach police are calling Dorrell’s death an apparent accident, not a suicide.

You sure are mean and rude! You sound like an complete idiot!

    • Barbara

I agree with your comments. As for you Amy, I’m glad to know that none of your family and/or friends are without making mistakes. As for using the word idiot without knowing the person, you must be very familiar with that word yourself.

  • Emily

According to a couple of employees at the Queen Mary who were told by their bosses NOT to comment on anything, stated they had witnessed the girl & her boyfriend arguing & she stated that “I don’t want to live anymore”, so I’m calling it a suicide & another statistic in the abusive relationship/domestic violence department. Referring to her as stupid, is stupid.

Instantly blame the man for the woman’s actions, right? Take and assign responsibility of one’s own actions.

    • greg

Emily, if correct I agree with the suicide, but I don’t see this as abusive, people argue, it doesn’t say he hit her, or was nasty to her, doesn’t say anything except an argument, sorry my dear, but arguments are not necessarily mean/abusive, can just be about whether or not to go home now or in an hour, that’s not abusive.

  • Bimbo Says

    Dude, edit!

  • USC Trojan Girl

Totally agree Amy. These are the kind of people that drink and drive and when they kill innocent drivers give us the ever-so-famous “i’m sorry”. Want to get wasted? Then stay on private property you morons!

  • DAVE

SOME THING DOES NOT MAKE SENCE HERE. THE STORY SAYS SHE FELL 75FT AND HER BF DOVE 15FT TO SAVE HER, WHAT IS WITH THE 60 FOOT DIFFRENCE. As for suicide or accident, this was not an accident she STEPED UP onto that rail that alone makes it SUICIDE which to agree with AMY make this woman CLEARLY stupid. Even of your mad at your BF/GF pitching your self off a ship is not the answer thus she was STUPID. As for domestic violence just because you argue does not make it VIOLENCE my wife and I had a good once over her accepting an invite to dinner before checking with me about my work schedule. She was mad I would not call off, I was mad that she did not talk to me first. But in any case no one hit anyone nor did we ABUSE each other we just ARGUED. So if this girl had to pitch her self off the ship for that then it was HER PROBLEM NOT HER BOY FRIENDS

They reported earlier that he ran down two decks before diving in. That’s why she died and he only had minor injuries. He knew he couldn’t dive right after her at that height.

  • Kimberly

im only 16 but have to agree with amy. this person VOLUNTARILY got drunk and died because of HER OWN NEGLIGENCE (key words there are her own negligence). Lets not beat around the bush and shy away from what she really was: A COMPLETE STUPID IDIOT…LOL

    • Stephnie Olson

lol lets laugh at the dead girl and her grieving family! lol! you’ll see when you get older and you celebrate your 21st bday and you do something stupid. hopefully you end up better off than this poor girl.

    • Mike

Amen Kimberly! Very well said :-) *People have a very bad habit of feeling sorry for people that die because of their own negligence. It’s amazing how they ignore the details and their brain automatically goes “ahhhhhhhhhh poor thing”

  • Jan

None of these college students are taught how to make the transition into adulthood, they are lame brains. Most, drink to get drunk and act like idiots… and too macho. So Sad. PsycoPaths are all over this City/County…too many stupid people on the streets, bring back the Lion Dens, all in favor say I, The I’s have it. Throw them all into the Den (including the home boys/girls) and let’s see if they will improve….NOT! Too Stupid of a society of low class people. Toxic people sucks big time.

  • rankin1

young good looking women hate to see them depart early

    • Larz Blackman

The ugly ones are usually better people.

  • Chris

I agree with Amy….Drinking and getting drunk is the #1 cause of problems these days…..Amy said it down to the bone!

I’m sorry to the family, not only for their loss, but for the people who take it upon themselves to decide whether or not this girl was “stupid”. She was intoxicated and made mistakes. Not that anyone commenting has ever made a mistake, I’m sure. Some are luckier than others to get out of their situation alive. I’ll pray for her that she ends up in the arms of God. I’ll also pray that the family finds peace.

    • TI

praying for her soul to go to heaven NOW is a waste of your time her fate in that area was decided BEFORE she died

  • Lorri Frain

My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of their special, beautiful daughter and granddaughter.
