CANYON COUNTRY (CBS) — One person was killed and another critically injured in a shooting at a Santa Clarita shopping center.

Two people have been transported to a trauma center after being shot outside the Canyon Country shopping center near Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway.

The shooting was first reported at 3:08 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene, one person was said to be in full arrest and the other in critical condition, according to a county fire inspector.

Three male suspects were seen running from the scene, according to eyewitness accounts.

Deputies set up a perimeter and reportedly took one suspect into custody.

A witness who declined to give his name, told the Newhall Signal that one victim was shot in the foot or leg and another in the chest. “I heard the shot and watched the dude hit the deck,” he said.

The newspaper reported the shootings may have begun as an attempted robbery.
